More Fun with Skyy Vodka

Keeping with the series of advertisements I've been looking at, I found this one particularly interesting. This one definitely speaks for itself... Besides the blatantly obvious phallic symbols, I took a look at the women in the ad. In almost all Skyy Vodka ads the women are not only in excessive make up but are made to look somewhat doll like. Here they both look like flawless porcelain dolls. Here with their mouths and eyes wide open it plays into the blow up doll imagery. Also interesting is the caption: Go Natural. Are they saying that what the women are doing(aka sexually) is natural, or that we should be natural? Because these women certainly look anything but natural...

Skyy Vodka

This series of Skyy Vodka advertisements is what I decided to do my polished blog on. All of the ads are hyper-sexualized and in my opinion are a perfect example of psychoanalytic theory. There is no shortage of phallic symbols, in fact in the majority of the ads the sky vodka bottle itself is the stand in for a penis. This particular ad showcases the woman's breasts as the triangular/focal point of the ad leads to the man's penis. Also, notice the shadowing directly over the woman's face. I think one of the most interesting aspects is the fact that while on the beach the man is clothes and the women is almost naked. I think this reinforces the power structure we had been discussing and implies that the man is of higher class and power than the woman.

Phallic Symbols?

Burger King released this ad last summer and I stumbled across it while thinking of a topic for our polished blogs. Well...I'm pretty sure the imagery can't get any more phallic than this. Even the name, "Bk Super Seven Incher" is ridiculous. The ad says: It'll Blow Your Mind Away.... with a picture of a girl resembling a blow up doll, with her mouth wide open while the bk super seven incher heads straight for her. The ad never aired in the U.S. but did make quite the run in Singapore! Interesting...

Overboard?

I just read in the news (yes the actual news and not perez hilton) that President Obama as well as former President Clinton have both "personally reached out to Tiger Woods." Apparently they both made phone calls of encouragement to Tiger while he was in rehab. It is just interesting to me how far this has gone. The man cheats on his wife and literally the whole world gets involved. I guess Clinton has dealt with this sort of thing before, but I still find it completely ridiculous that the leaders of our country find it necessary to comfort a golf star who lost endorsements. What's next, an intervention for Lindsey Lohan hosted by the White House?
